Compensation Increases Approved
I’m grateful to all of you for making the fall semester a tremendous success, and I’m pleased to share some exciting news. The regents supported and have approved compensation increases for eligible faculty and university staff (non-classified) at CU Boulder, CU Denver, UCCS and system administration. You may recall the regents already approved the increased pool that went into effect on July 1, 2021, for CU Anschutz employees and classified staff universitywide.
This action is a direct reflection of your commitment to the University of Colorado and your outstanding efforts. During this extraordinary time, you have shown up every day to educate and support our students, conduct research and meet the needs of our community.
I also know that many are facing challenges due to cost-of-living increases since the beginning of the pandemic. Understanding that, I want to give you an update on where things stand with compensation adjustments for the coming year.
While our enrollments are at or above June estimates, which is great news, we didn’t meet revenue thresholds that would have triggered automatic compensation increases. Still, the regents, chancellors and I felt something needed to be done.
The compensation plan includes a 3% base-building salary increase and a one-time payment equal to 1% of an employee’s annual salary in effect on Dec. 31, 2021. This applies to all eligible faculty and university staff (non-classified) at CU Boulder, CU Denver, UCCS and system administration, except for those with a performance rating of 2 or below on their most recent performance review. The 3% base-building salary increase will be applied across the board effective Jan. 1, 2022. The 1% one-time payment will be made in January 2022 paychecks. To help cover these additional expenses at the campus level, an ongoing decrease in charges assessed to the campuses for system administration will be implemented.
This follows previous CU regent action, including a one-time payment equal to a 2% pay increase for faculty and university staff (non-classified) at CU Boulder, CU Denver, UCCS and system administration for the six months between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2021, which was a result of the shift to the calendar year compensation cycle. It also follows previous salary increases for classified staff universitywide and CU Anschutz faculty and university staff compensation pool, plus hourly market wage adjustments bringing most campuses up to a minimum of $15 per hour that were effective on July 1.
You can expect to hear more about this from your campus leaders. I’m grateful to the regents for their action to support our exceptional faculty and university staff. Please know that the regents and I appreciate your hard work and thank you again for your dedication to CU.
Sincerely,
Todd Saliman, President
