Leonard Dinegar

Senior Vice President for Internal Operations and Chief of Staff

As senior vice president for internal operations and chief of staff, Leonard Dinegar works closely with the president, vice presidents, chancellors, and regents, and assists the president in managing the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President for the four-campus CU system. Dinegar currently oversees the offices of University Information ServicesEmployee Services, the Boettcher Foundation Webb-Waring Biomedical Research Awards Program, Procurement Service Center, Board of Regents Administrative Operations, and the Office of Policy and Efficiency.

Among the many projects Dinegar led, he spearheaded the relocation of the Office of the President from the Boulder campus to downtown Denver, created the Office of Policy and Efficiency, and helped create the Boettcher Foundation Webb-Waring Biomedical Research Awards Program.

Dinegar previously served as the chief lobbyist at the state capitol for the University of Colorado system. Prior to that, he served as the chief lobbyist for the CU Health Sciences Center and the University of Colorado Hospital. In these positions Dinegar led the support for legislative approval of the health sciences campus to move from 9th and Colorado to what is now the Anschutz Medical Campus. He also successfully lobbied for hundreds of millions of dollars for capital projects on CU’s four campuses and increased state funding for CU.

Before coming to Colorado, Dinegar served as an executive in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. He worked with governors and mayors of all 50 states, assessing their drug policies and programs to help determine policy and federal funding levels for state drug control efforts. Also while in Washington, D.C., Dinegar served at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and was the director of public affairs for the One-to-One Mentoring Partnership.

Dinegar, originally from Queens, N.Y., earned his Master of Humanities degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Christina, have three children (Sarah, Charles and Sandy).
